YES MY BODY IS BEAUTIFUL!- TORONTO BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER

When I was chatting with Miss C about her shoot, she let me know she would be nervous. When she saw herself glammed up after hair & makeup, and we began shooting, I could see her nerves melt away! She was just living in the moment.

Read more of Miss C's story below. Women like this is the reason I do what I do, and why I love my job as a boudoir photographer. If I can help women see themselves in a new light, and see the beauty that was always within them, then I have done my job.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO DO A BOUDOIR SHOOT?

I decided to do the boudoir shoot with Samantha from Crave Boudoir for a few different reasons. The first being the fact that I have only really started to fully love my body in the last year or so. I have always been extremely critical of my weight and size.

About a year ago I started to truly love the skin I'm in and I needed to do something to finally prove to myself that YES my body is beautiful. The second reason being that I am getting married in July, and what better gift for the man who has ALWAYS seen me as perfect in every single way.

HOW DID YOU FEEL DURING YOUR SHOOT?

As someone who has never even been comfortable in shorts or a bikini, I was extremely nervous to be photographed wearing lingerie. As soon as a met Sam, I immediately felt comfortable, she was so kind and genuinely excited for the shoot. She is truly amazing at what she does. While shooting I felt so empowered, with Sam guiding me and the music playing- I felt incredible!

HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN YOU SAW YOUR IMAGES FOR THE FIRST TIME?

When I first saw the images at my reveal the feeling was overwhelming. I could not believe it was me in the pictures. Not because they were edited or altered, but because of the confidence that I could see in myself. It was a whirlwind of emotions that I was feeling. But mostly I was so proud of myself for doing something that up until recently I never would have done, EVER!

This entire experience has made such a positive impact on me. I am more comfortable in my own skin then ever before! I have been working on loving myself for a long time, and I've always wanted to be confident in my own skin. Doing the boudoir shoot with Sam at Crave Boudoir was the final step of my self love journey, it was grand finale of realizing just how sexy, bold and brave I am.

FINAL STEP IN MY HEALING PROCESS. TORONTO BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER

This month, I had the honour of photographing the beautiful Miss A. Her reason for doing a boudoir shoot, was much deeper than just having pretty photos of herself. She is such a strong, beautiful soul. Her shoot was literally life changing. Read on to hear about her experience.

toronto boudoir photographer

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO DO A BOUDOIR SHOOT?

It was for myself, a form of healing if you will.  I've struggled with self image and self esteem all of my adult life.  When I was a child, a person I trusted and idolized told me that I was worthless and useless.  Those words struck very deep and stayed with me most of my life.  As a result I deal with PTSD, depression, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.  The last ten years of my life has been an uphill battle to heal. I've endured a lot and fought my way through physical, sexual and emotional abuse.  I've had help through counselling, group therapy, self help, medications, natural therapies, meditations, soul searching and exercise.  I can finally say that I love myself and that I am not ashamed of myself.  The boudoir shoot was a final step in my healing process. It was my way of letting go and forgiving. I am worthy!

HOW DID YOU FEEL DURING YOUR SHOOT?

At first I was nervous and yet excited at the same time. I couldn't stop talking. However, Samantha's guidance and encouragement made me feel at ease.  I started to feel comfortable and at ease. I relaxed about halfway through and then it started to feel natural.  Awesome!

toronto boudoir photographer

HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN YOU SAW YOUR IMAGES FOR THE FIRST TIME?

Breathless and in awe! I totally cried! Watching myself, I felt truly loved and empowered and beautiful all at once!  I felt like a woman and so worthy for the first time in my life.

toronto boudoir photographer

HAS THE PHOTO SHOOT HELPED YOUR CONFIDENCE?

Absolutely! It's the best thing for it! Empowerment brings out our strength and self love.  Samantha has this incredible ability to bring it out through the lens of a camera.

toronto boudoir photographer

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND A BOUDOIR PHOTO SHOOT TO OTHER WOMEN?

YES, in a heartbeat! I cannot express how grateful I am to you Samantha, and to your make up artist for doing what you do.  It is by far the best thing I have done for myself.  I feel empowered and free. Thank you.

THE SAUCY REDHEAD. TORONTO BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER

This year I re-connected with my college buddy, and badass photographer Andrea Hunter.

It's always a bit intimidating photographing another photographer, but we had so much fun, and Andrea is an amazing model as well, she made my job a breeze.

WHY DID YOU WANT TO DO A BOUDOIR SHOOT?

I wanted to do a boudoir shoot for my boyfriend for our 1 year anniversary. I've shot so many woman wanting to do the same things for their significant others, and never really had the courage to do it myself until I realized hey im almost 30 and my bodies not getting any better, so why not do it now!!

HOW DID YOU FEEL DURING YOUR SHOOT?

THE EMPOWERMENT OF BOUDOIR IS INSURMOUNTABLE. TORONTO BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER.

Adina is an amazing woman who has overcome so much in her life. She is SUCH a badass hard working babe. Her confidence is amazing to watch. She did this for nobody but herself, and now has these gorgeous photos to remind her of the badass that she is.

toronto boudoir photographer

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO DO A BOUDOIR SHOOT?

I have done five other boudoir shots in the past and love my photographer and her team.  I saw Sam's work a couple of years ago and reached out about options.  I loved the studio she shot in and thought a different lens would be fun.

My main reasons for doing these are typically in celebration of something.  My first was my first 60 lbs I lost, and a few in between celebrated new relationships and times in my life.

I kept putting this off and after the loss of my dad and a very emotional break up, I knew it was time to do something for myself that reminded me of my inner beauty.  I was losing confidence and my general Adina mojo, which started to really get me down.

toronto boudoir photographer

HOW DID YOU FEEL DURING YOUR SHOOT?

For those who have done shoots with me in the past, I'm very comfortable with my body so walking around naked or partially naked isn't a big deal.  I believe this to be a form of art so I have little reservation, however, there still needs to be a certain level of professionalism and tact and Sam showed me this.

It was just her and I during the shot and no complicated equipment.  I loved it being just her and her camera. She was open to some of my own suggestions, especially the one with the smoke and book!  I think that turned out just perfect.  I could feel my mood changing and was so happy, especially during the time I was in, to push myself to do it!

toronto boudoir photographer
toronto boudoir photographer

HOW DID YOU FEEL AFTER SEEING YOUR IMAGES FOR THE FIRST TIME?

Sam did an amazing job at showcasing my images in a slide show when I first showed up.  It was a lot to take in.  I didn't recognize myself in some of them - not physically, but just the confidence that I thought I had lost.  I was proud of what I saw. She captured my essence perfectly.

toronto boudoir photographer

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND A BOUDOIR SHOOT TO OTHER WOMEN?

Being a plus size woman, I believe in embracing your body and loving it. While there are a lot of days I struggle, the empowerment of boudoir is insurmountable. It can quickly remind you that you are beautiful, help you find the confidence and courage you may not have ever had or through life, let slip from your grip.  I recommend boudoir for individuals (dudes and ladies) and would love to do a couple's shoot down the road some day, even if it's with my cat!

Adina has an awesome Blog. It is raw, honest and very inspiring. If you'd like to check it out you can do so here: https://discoveryourstrength.me

FASHION QUEEN. TORONTO BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER.

This was my second time photographing this beauty. The first time, we did a very soft, classic boudoir shoot. This time, we decided to go for something a little different. We wanted to try out a high contrast, edgy look, and I am loving the result!

I'M GLAD I MADE HER CRY. TORONTO BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER.

When I showed Nikita her images for the first time last week, I left the room to let her watch the slideshow on her own, to digest the images in private for the first time.

When I returned to the room, I witnessed Nikita wiping tears away from her eyes. Tears of joy! Tears of Happiness! Tears of Accomplishment! Although I wanted to break down and cry with her, I ran over and gave her a huge hug. I kept it together for her, but as I sit down to write this blog, my eyes are full of tears. Sometimes I can't even believe this is my life. That I get to literally change the way women see themselves. To give women confidence, and show them that they are freakin' beautiful, no matter what societies stupid standards tell us.

Nikita seeing herself, as a plus size woman who hasn't always had it easy (kids are assholes) looking FIERCE, and absolutely breath-taking, brought her to tears.

For that reason, I am glad the images made her cry. It means she did something challenging, even though she was scared, and for that, she can now and move forward with life feeling like a badass, confident BABE.

Nikita let herself be vulnerable, and I am so grateful to be given the opportunity to photograph her, and show her ALL the beauty that was ALWAYS there.

HOW DID YOU FEEL DURING YOUR SHOOT?

The week leading up to my shoot I was so excited - words cant describe. The day of, I was up bright and early anticipating what was to come! I've always been very shy, so naturally I was upon starting the shoot, but I very quickly became extremely comfortable, and really was just amazed with what I was doing.

toronto boudoir photographer

HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN YOU SAW YOUR IMAGES FOR THE FIRST TIME?

I cried. There were so many emotions running through my body, I can't even begin to explain how I felt! I was excited to FINALLY get to see how everything had turned out, and was I ever happy! It was almost hard to believe that was me !

DID THE BOUDOIR SHOOT HELP YOUR SELF CONFIDENCE?

Yes, yes, YES! As a woman who is 5'8", 235lbs, I've seen my fair share of hate within the plus sized world and to receive these photos, to see how GREAT I can look, made me feel absolutely amazing! I left my reveal with the biggest smile on my face, and the best feeling running through my body, and that feeling has yet to fade!

toronto boudoir photographer

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO A WOMAN CONSIDERING A BOUDOIR SHOOT?

DO IT! Book a session and DON'T LOOK BACK! Don't think of  "I need to lose weight first" "I wont look like those other girls" or anything else, just do it and I promise you'll feel like a rock star.

toronto boudoir photographer

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO ADD?

I really just want to say thank you to Sam for all her amazing work! Shes one of a kind, and to create the experience that she does for all the ladies that walk through her studio is really unique, I can't wait for the future and to hopefully walk through her studio doors again!

MY FIRST COUPLES BOUDOIR SESSION. TORONTO BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER.

I did something a little different this weekend that I had wanted to try for a long time. Couples boudoir!

I was so lucky to photograph this lovely couple, Kristina and Sydney. They were so sweet, patient, easy going, and SO in love. I was in awe watching them interact with each other, they made my job completely effortless.

We kept the look natural and raw, just like their love.

S: Honestly, exactly what Kris said, it was magical and so so easy to just... be I guess. We felt so comfortable just doing our thing and trusting that Sam knew how to translate into pictures (which were unreal let me say)

BOUDOIR IS MORE THAN JUST PRETTY PHOTOS. TORONTO BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER.

I recently had the pleasure of photographing Alexandra for the second time. I saw a huge difference in her attitude and confidence this time around. She came in confident, comfortable and totally ROCKED her shoot.

Although there are still tough days for us all with body image, boudoir can absolutely help to see yourself in a positive light, and to be a little more gentle on yourself.

Check out Alexandra's experience below.

Why did you decide to do a boudoir shoot?

I have always wanted to do a boudoir shoot, but was hesitant for many reasons. I lacked confidence in myself, was unsure of my ability to pose; especially half naked in front of a person I didn’t know. I guess you could say I was too shy and not comfortable in my own skin to do something so amazing, so beautiful.

It was because of my insecurities and lack of confidence in myself that I chose to do a boudoir shoot. Was I nervous and a bit scared, yes, but that all changed the day I met Samantha Kidd. I was lucky enough to do my first boudoir shoot with Samantha last year, and boy was it an experience I will never forget!

How was your experience during the shoot?

I did my second boudoir shoot with Samantha at Crave Boudoir in Toronto a month ago, and was yet again blown away by her professionalism, creativity, positivity and determination.

Samantha is both professional and organized; she provided hair and makeup services for you to feel like a Queen as well as lingerie pieces to use during your shoot.

From the very beginning Samantha makes you feel comfortable and takes away any nervousness that you may have. She made me feel beautiful, confident, and happy throughout the entire shoot.

Samantha has taken her business to a different level, she has completed seminars on posing for women of all sizes and helps you with posing to help you look and feel your best. Samantha is so passionate about what she does, she really loves it and you can tell from the moment you meet her in person to the moment you order your images.

My experience was very positive and uplifting. I felt like a new woman, a woman who could stand tall and love every perfect imperfection, every curve and every angle. I am so thankful to have met Samantha and look forward to our future photo shoots together.

How did you feel after seeing your images?

I had good butterflies all week awaiting my meeting with Samantha to see my images from our shoot. I was blown away by her presentation! Samantha created a slideshow presentation with uplifting music and positive quotes along with my images from our shoot.

I felt like a princess in a fairytale! I was beyond happy with the magic she created! Her talent, dedication and hard work that she put in blew me away and I could not have been happier!

Did seeing your images help your self-confidence?

Yes, yes and YES! There are days where I struggle with loving the body I have, moments where I don’t feel sexy and times where I just wish certain parts of my body were different. Learning to love my body is an ongoing journey that will continue to have its ups and downs.

Working with Samantha has had a positive impact on my body image. Thanks to Samantha my self-confidence has improved and my journey of loving myself is becoming easier each day.

Don’t hesitate like I did. You deserve this, you are worth it, and most importantly it will help you love you for the amazing woman you are, inside and out! When you have confidence in yourself anything is possible!

Here is a recent session of the stunning Miss E in her lifestyle boudoir session.

To some women, feeling empowered can mean different things, which is totally fine! Some women feel their sexiest when they are dolled up, while others feel sexy "sweatpants, hair tied, chilling with no makeup on", In the words of Drake. There is no style which is better than the other. Each woman is unique and badass in their own way. Every woman is worthy of feeling beautiful no matter what.

ALL BODIES ARE GOOD BODIES. TORONTO BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER.

At Crave Boudoir, we are inclusive of ALL bodies.

Bodies with abs, and bodies with jiggly bits. ALL are welcome in my studio, and ALL are important valuable bodies.

There is no one body type that trumps the other. I want to make that clear.

A woman's body is her choice to do what she wants with.

If a woman loves working out, that's fine.

If a woman loves tacos, that's fine.

If a woman chooses to have plastic surgery, that's fine.

No one body is better than the other. Our bodies as women ARE SO POWERFUL! Our bodies are our vessels which take us on this adventure called life.

My goal is to make you feel like a damn Queen no matter what your size. I want you to realize that life is NOT ALL ABOUT YOUR BODY!

We are all unique, sexy, beautiful babes. I am so happy to be able to show so many women they are perfect just the way they are.

DO SOMETHING THAT SCARES YOU. TORONTO BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER.

Recently, I had the privilege to photograph my friend Miss K.

We met at our past office job. We instantly clicked. You know those people who come into your life and the conversation flows without effort? That's what I had with Miss K.

When Miss K found out I was shooting boudoir on the side, she was intrigued, and we always kind of joked about her coming in for a shoot. Then years later, as we have both moved on to better jobs (LIKE PHOTOGRAPHING AND EMPOWERING WOMEN!) she stepped into my studio.

We laughed our asses off at the fact that we met in an office, and now I am photographing her half nude. Miss K left feeling like an empowered goddess!

I couldn't muster the confidence to accept my appearance. TORONTO BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER.

There were a lot of reasons why I did my boudoir shoot but one of them was because I have always had insecurities about my looks. Despite the many people that told me I should feel otherwise, I couldn’t muster the confidence to accept my appearance.

I always felt stuck as the awkward 14 year old that didn’t really get noticed by anyone as being beautiful or significant. I always felt a little invisible as silly as it is to say. Doing my boudoir shoot was my way of finally overcoming the negative perception of myself. To finally own “DAMN, GIRL YOU LOOKING DAMN GOOD” and nothing less.

toronto boudoir

Working with Samantha during the shoot really led to the affirmation of my positive perception of myself; that I am confident, feminine, and sexy.

toronto boudoir

It is hard to describe the experience other than “transformative” because it really is a personal journey. The emotional and mental aspect of this boudoir shoot is so important to me because if I did not take the physical risk, I don’t think i would feel secure in how I feel and perceive myself.   There is no better feeling than accepting and loving who you are whole heartedly.

When life throws you curves, embrace them! TORONTO BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER.

If you haven't heard of Fabuplus Magazine, you need to check it out! It is an amazing lifestyle magazine for curvy women. I was proudly published in the Summer issue when I photographed a very special client of mine, Kerri-Lyn. Read below for her empowering interview.

toronto boudoir photographer.jpg

What inspired you to do a boudoir shoot with Crave Boudoir?

I am in my mid 40’s, I have always been curvy. I spent my teen years being ashamed of my size, my 20’s pregnant, and focusing on being a mom, my 30’s not really caring about my appearance at all, and now, I've decided that it's my time to shine!

I had been considering doing a boudoir shoot, when I came across Crave Boudoir’s photos, they were exactly the look that I wanted, sexy but classy, sensual yet playful, but above all that, the women all looked beautiful and RADIANT! I immediately fell in love with all the pictures on the Crave Boudoir website and Instagram page. I wanted to feel like these women looked.

What have you learned since shooting with Crave Boudoir?

I have never in my life considered myself sexy. In all honesty, I had never even considered myself attractive at all, until I saw the photographs that Samantha had taken. It took all of my self control not to tear up. I look GOOD, really good! Although I don't want to sound vain, I kind of looked hot. Never had I thought it was possible to look like that. All of the areas of my body that I was so insecure about seemed irrelevant. My focus wasn't on them , my focus was on the positives.

toronto boudoir photographer

Why has this been so important to you?

I truly believe every woman should do a photo shoot at some stage of their lives, it has brought out a self confidence in me that I didn't know existed. I find myself smiling more, standing taller, feeling more comfortable in my own skin. The photos made me feel empowered, almost invincible. There is something about being shown what you look like to others that changes your perspective of how you see yourself. My body is in no way, close to society's definition of perfection, but it is MY body. I have been trying to be more involved in the body positive movement, and I have no problem finding the beauty in others, I am now starting to see it in myself.

What do you hope other women will gain when they see your photos?

I would hope that they would lose any inhibitions or self doubt. That they would see their potential to feel the confidence and self discovery that the photos have awarded me. That they would see the beauty that exists in them everyday. That they would be inspired to book their own shoot and experience the exhilaration of feeling worthy of being photographed.

toronto boudoir photography

How did you find your experience shooting with Crave Boudoir?

I can't say enough wonderful things about Samantha! She is absolutely amazing, she's so positive and encouraging. Before the shoot, she sent a questionnaire asking about your favourite features about your body and how exposed you want the pictures to be. I was a nervous wreck when I first arrived, the butterflies in my stomach were having a rave! Yet by the time my hair and makeup were done I was much calmer. Several times during the shoot, I got the giggles, and, still Samantha kept shooting, and although those pictures were neither sultry or provocative, they showed, the real me. I was sceptical of some of the poses she was asking me to do, but then when I saw the results, I was blown away.

FLORIDA CURVES

This September I travelled to Boca Grande, Florida for a photography workshop called Florida Curves. We got to photograph 3 models all with different body types, who were all EQUALLY stunning as you will see below.

I went in to the workshop thinking I would learn some lighting and editing techniques, which I TOTALLY did as you will see in this blog. However, little did I know how much I would learn about myself in the two days I spent in a house with the most incredible group of women photographers.

We got silly.

We got vulnerable.

We got fierce.

During the workshop, the teachers asked us our "WHY". Why do we shoot boudoir?

Of course my first thought was "I love to empower women and help them embrace their bodies"

Then we were asked to think deeper than that. I began to think of my own journey to loving my body the way I do today.

I thought back to my childhood- always being called "skinny minnie" by my family and how uncomfortable it made me feel. Even though I was thin, I was so self conscious of my body. I would wear a t-shirt over my swim suit to the public pool as an attempt to cover my flat chest. I would wear baggy t-shirts and sweaters to school because I wanted to hide that I didn't have hips, and felt my body was too boyish to be seen.

My body didn't look like the other girls in my class. I can even remember in middle school, wearing two bras under my shirt to a party to try and make my boobs bigger!

During college when I gained some weight and got some boobies, I still wasn't happy with my body. It is so hard to love yourself when you are constantly bombarded with images in the media that show you an unachievable standard of beauty.

There is a common misconception that skinny=happy. That could not be further from the truth. You never know someone's insecurities based on their size.

It wasn't until I discovered boudoir photography that I started to truly love my body just the way it is. I saw the impact the photos had on my clients. Sometimes these women are seeing themselves as beautiful for the very first time in their life, and it is a very powerful feeling to give someone that gift.

I started to realize that there is no such thing as the perfect body. All bodies are valuable and all bodies are unique. Women's bodies allow us to live, love, thrive, laugh, succeed, learn, grow babies, travel, dance, and of course, eat all the pizza!! Our bodies are capable of SO many amazing things, I finally learned it doesn't have to be perfectly chiseled in order to be happy with life.

Fast forward to current day, where I no longer am ashamed of my body. At the workshop I did not cover my body on the beach, but rather frolicked nude and went skinny dipping with the entire group of women at the workshop. It was one of the most surreal and amazing moments in my life. I felt completely free and happy.

Unique. Empowering. Fun. TORONTO BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER

Unique. Empowering. Fun. - Those are the three words Abby used to describe her boudoir session, but I could truthfully use the same three words to describe Abby.

Abby Green is a recipient of a Body Confidence Canada Award in 2016. I followed her on social media, and have watched all of her makeup reviews and tutorials on her Youtube channel. Not to mention- she rocked her own makeup for her shoot, can you say- mad skills? So when she approached me to photograph her boudoir session, I was SO EXCITED!

I have photographed many women of ALL different shapes and sizes, but never a woman in a wheelchair. So for me, I was beyond excited to shatter another one of modern societies ridiculous cookie cutter standards for beauty!

Abby is one of the most brave, smart, independent, hilarious, empowering women I have ever met. She is the epitome of what a strong female should strive to be. She does not let her disability get in the way of ANYTHING.

In Abbys words: "It takes thick skin to be me. Everywhere I go I have gross words hurled at me. Parents hide their cowering children from the Hideous Wheelchair Monster. And that's not even considering the gross things I've read online! It took a lot of work to get where I am today. And, if I can give myself credit, I'm proud of myself. I'm proud that I worked through all the garbage and found myself beautiful, even with all the times I've been told and taught that a girl in a wheelchair can never be pretty. I found the courage to put myself out there everyday, whether it's at my IRL job, or on my Youtube channel, regardless of the negativity"

I hope Abby's session will inspire many women who have ever felt like their body has no representation in mainstream media, that it is such an empowering feeling to "break the mold" of societies ridiculous beauty standards. I am so proud of Abby and all the work she has done on her journey to loving herself.

Young Self Love. TORONTO BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER

All my clients who walk through my studio doors amaze and inspire me. Every. Single. One. This beautiful soul Breanna, came to see me last winter and we had a blast capturing some seriously stunning images. Breanna is amongst one of the strongest and inspiring young women I have ever encountered. Watching her embrace her curves and believe in her beauty was magic. Breanna is wise beyond her years, and should be so proud of herself as a young woman to be able to show such love and care for herself!

Celebrate Yourself. TORONTO BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER.

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, I was inspired to use these dreamy kimono robes by a lovely Toronto designer Sarah Catalfo in Layna's boudoir session. The robes are gorgeous, sexy, feminine, and unique just like my clients. Layna looked absolutely STUNNING in her session. Valentine's Day does not always have to be about celebrating your love for someone else, it can be about celebrating YOU and the amazing woman that you are!

This past summer I got to photograph SUCH an amazing woman. Her name is Sarah Taylor and she is a Toronto plus size model, blogger, body diversity advocate, motivational speaker, just to name a few. Her reason for doing a boudoir shoot for herself, was to take back her purity as a part of her healing journey. Check out her blog post here to read more about her story.
