When I showed Nikita her images for the first time last week, I left the room to let her watch the slideshow on her own, to digest the images in private for the first time.
When I returned to the room, I witnessed Nikita wiping tears away from her eyes. Tears of joy! Tears of Happiness! Tears of Accomplishment! Although I wanted to break down and cry with her, I ran over and gave her a huge hug. I kept it together for her, but as I sit down to write this blog, my eyes are full of tears. Sometimes I can't even believe this is my life. That I get to literally change the way women see themselves. To give women confidence, and show them that they are freakin' beautiful, no matter what societies stupid standards tell us.
Nikita seeing herself, as a plus size woman who hasn't always had it easy (kids are assholes) looking FIERCE, and absolutely breath-taking, brought her to tears.
For that reason, I am glad the images made her cry. It means she did something challenging, even though she was scared, and for that, she can now and move forward with life feeling like a badass, confident BABE.
Nikita let herself be vulnerable, and I am so grateful to be given the opportunity to photograph her, and show her ALL the beauty that was ALWAYS there.
